Seventy Seven Skimboards came to be when a group of friends got together on a hot sunny day to try and figure this “sport” out. With roughly shaped boards the three hurled themselves across the beach and onto their boards only to flail and eventually fall hard enough to make a person cringe. This outing resulted in days of pain, limiting their movement in every way! Eventually, the friends figured skimboarding out and it became one of their favorite summer activities.
Today Seventy Seven Skimboards is a thriving, family run, small business that sends its products around the globe so that many more friends may be introduced to skimboarding for the first time or improve to improve their skills with a modern, professionally crafted board. Once built on the patio our boards are now made in our 400 sq/ft shop that is located just outside Vancouver, BC. Each board passes through only one set of hands, the companies owner and manufacturer, Richard Vath, who sets his quality level amongst the highest. Never during the manufacturing of your board is there any automation. From the selection of the birch for each board, to the last coat of finish, every step is done by hand. Some would say this is old fashioned and cumbersome but Richard feels that to ensure a product will be as fun for you to enjoy as it is for him to create, it must be made by hand with passion and certainty.
When we skim we are outside enjoying the environment and our company recognizes that the planet is very sensitive to everything we do. To minimize our impact during the manufacture of our products we make every effort to be a green company. We do this by using efficient heating and lighting in our shop, recycling waste products, using adhesives and sealants with the lowest environmental impact, and recycling old boards by giving them to aspiring riders who can not afford their own.
One day we may grow out of our shop thanks to your support. Our goal is not to be the biggest skimboard company out there, but to provide you the rider, with the best product.
